One man went to auction...

Picture the scene. It’s the middle of December. There is at least a foot of snow on the ground. You’re approximately 400m above sea level. You’re driving through the beautiful Peak District National Park on your way to see a friend who’s been to a vehicle auction…

“It’s at this point some people might ask: “what were you driving?” because it would definitely have a bearing on the outcome of the story!,” explains Richard Tomlinson, managing director of View Truck & Van and, incidentally, the driver in that snowy landscape.

“The friend in question lives on a small farm and had gone to the auction with the sole purpose of purchasing a tractor. He ended up coming away with two snow mobiles. So, another friend and I came over all adventurous and made the decision to visit him and maybe have a go on the snow mobiles ourselves.

“Once we arrived at the farm – which is at the top of a big hill – we got out of our Mercedes ML and had a look at the new toys. They were brilliant and lots of fun to drive, a bit different to the trucks and vans I’m used to in my day job!”

Continues Richard: “As the light began to fade, we knew we’d have to make tracks and head back home to Sheffield. That’s when the next round of fun began. Driving back down the road was quite challenging to say the least. I can assure you that 2 tonnes of downward momentum is not stopped with ABS, winter tyres or hill descent!”

Here’s a photo of Richard running down the hill to check what was around the corner. More sheet ice was the answer! His friend was in the adjacent field on his new snow mobile checking everyone was ok. We’re happy to report that Richard and his friend got home safe and sound. Eventually!
